Forest Code reduced the liability of APPs and Legal Reserves in 41 million hectares of vegetation
Using the newly released by the SFB data, the Atlas project - Geography of the Brazilian Agriculture for the first time generated an integrated national land base that made possible the development of more precise calculations on the APP and RL deficits at the level of rural properties. These new figures could serve as a basis for the development of state PRAs, as well as other actions and policies that interact and support the implementation of Law 12,651 / 2012 in the country.

How open data can contribute to the fight against deforestation and the sustainable forest and agricultural production?
Despite recent advances and efforts in forest monitoring and the relative reduction in annual deforestation rates in the Brazilian Amazon [1] , the illegal logging remains a major environmental problem, generating social conflict, emissions of the greenhouse effect and environmental degradation . Another challenge, present in all regions of the country is to ensure that rural properties maintain and / or recover the areas, which by law, must have forest cover, such as river banks and hilltops. Currently 21 million hectares that should have forests, have other types of land use.

Incentive is effective for conservation
Luis Fernando Guedes Pinto The conservation of native vegetation in Brazil remains a major challenge. Threatened by the expansion of the agricultural frontier, the construction of infrastructure for economic growth without territorial planning and insufficient governance, national targets to reduce deforestation, emissions that cause the greenhouse effect and vegetation restoration are compromised. The complexity to achieve them requires an integrated set of public and private mandatory and voluntary actions, command and control and incentives.
