Primer on how to use the Environmental Reserve Quota
Friday May 15th, 2015
Brasilia, May 15, 2015 – The Amazon Institute for Environmental Research (IPAM) launches a primer to help farmers to know and apply the Environmental Reserve Quota system (CRA), one of the tools of the Forest Code designed to solve the liability who deforested too in the past.
Understanding the quotas is simple: the owner who advanced the legal reserve than as permitted by law can purchase a title that has vegetation in abundance. This transaction is done through securities traded in commodity exchanges or systems of registration and liquidation of assets.
Thus, the CRA is a mechanism that rewards those who preserved, it helps keep the vegetation existing and allows deforested who regularize their property. “The odds favor the conservation and regulation of the legal reserve liabilities with great effectiveness,” says researcher Ipam Marcelo Stabile, an author of the study. “They are excellent opportunities for owners and the government, both from an environmental point of view as economic.”
