CAR: Industry press the governmentMonday March 31st, 2014
March 31, 2014
The Brazilian Association of Meat Exporters (Abiec) joined the chorus of the vegetable oil industry to ask for urgency in settling Rural Environmental Registry (CAR). In a statement issued last Friday (28/03), the Abiec notes that regulation by the Executive is expected for at least a year and “the delay in implementation of the law undermines all the links in the chain”: The non-producer have access to essential information regarding the environmental compliance process and the processing industry and retailers are unable to guarantee to consumers the origin of their products.
For Abiec, the entire production chain suffers from a lack of monitoring and the legal uncertainty generated by the delay, “once deadlines and forms for environmental regularization of rural properties depend on this normative instruction, to be published after the regulation.” The Association of Vegetable Oil Industries (Abiove) had already reported similar note last week.
